40% increase in plasma donations for the New Zealand Blood Service

The following is from our huge library of client successes—why not discover how you can develop your team leaders capability to get better results?

The New Zealand Blood Service is the provider of blood services for New Zealand. They went from being reliant on sourcing plasma from overseas, to having more donors than they needed.

Doug Gallagher, Director Donor Services

“Over 6 months, our new plasma donor recruitment literally took off. More new donors were signed up than we had hoped for, around twice the amount. This was a 40% increase in six months. As a result, we hit our Plasma Donor Panel stretch target more than a year early. A phenomenal achievement I never thought was possible.”

“Our Recruiters quickly became excited about the new approach they were taking as they could see their individual and collective efforts making a difference.

“NZ Blood is the only provider of blood, plasma, and platelets to New Zealand hospitals, and is therefore a vital service, relying on donations from regular donors. A significant increase in demand for plasma, which is a global trend, continues to be a significant challenge which can only be overcome by significantly increasing the number of regular plasma donors and frequency of donations.

“Before BravaTrak, we were nervous that we wouldn’t be able to meet demand needs, therefore having to rely on plasma sourced from other countries.

“Our team of donor Recruiters had always done a good job at maintaining donor numbers but the significant increase in donor numbers meant we knew we needed to do something quite different.

“BravaTrak was recommended as an organisation to help coach our Recruiter leaders and we were at first nervous as we suspected ‘sales’ wasn’t the same as donor - or volunteer - acquisition. Essentially, we didn’t think selling cars was the same as attracting blood donors. We were wrong.

“Blair at BravaTrak was excellent to work with from the beginning. He first took time to understand our work (the ‘business’), and the capabilities of our team. A proposal was made, and leaders underwent initial orientation training which was ‘on point’ for what needed to be achieved. The ongoing coaching and support have been first-class.”
